2014 Big 12 Recruiting Rankings: May

Texas Tech is the big mover in this set or rankings. (h/t TexasTech.com)
Below is the third set of rankings for the 2014 cycle.  I'm hopeful that I can do a new set of rankings about once every month with new analysis.  The rankings aren't scientific and are based on a number of factors including talent (obviously), class size, potential for growth, and others.  Agree or disagree?  Leave a comment below or tweet me @Big12Recruit.

1. Texas:  The Horns clearly have the best class in the Big 12 right now and they'll hold onto this spot throughout the year.  They've been relatively quiet in the past couple of weeks and even lost a commit (Demetrius Knox), but they still have 13 commits including five 4-star recruits (according to 247Sports).  247Sports also lists them as having the best class in the entire nation.

2. Texas Tech:  Tech has probably been the hottest team on the recruiting trail since the last set of rankings.  They've picked up seven new commitments since the middle of April, which now brings their overall total to 10.  Athlete Derrick Neal, who is #199 in the Top247, is the headliner for the Tech class right now.

3. Baylor:  While Baylor's class only contains five commitments right now, I really like it.  WR Davion Hall, if Baylor can keep his commitment, will be one of the top recruits to sign next February in the conference.  RB Terence Williams is another commit that is in the Composite Top247 (#238).

4. Kansas State:  For not being a recruiting powerhouse, K-State has a pretty solid class right now as they've already picked up six verbal commits.  Wildcat fans should be excited about speedy RB Dalvin Warmack's commitment.

5. Oklahoma:  Bob Stoops only has four commitments right now, but that includes a pair of pretty good 4-star prospects.  California WR Dallis Todd picked the Sooners last month over offers from the likes of Miami, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, etc.  QB Justice Hansen is another top 150 recruit.

6. TCU:  The Frogs have also been pretty quiet the past several weeks.  Their last commit, QB Foster Sawyer, committed back on April 11th.

7. Oklahoma State:  The Pokes have a pair of 4-star prospects (RB Devon Thomas and LB Gyasi Akem) and LB Justin Phillips rounds out the class so far.  If Devon Thomas is healthy, he can contend to be the best RB that signs in the Big 12 next February.

8. Iowa State:  ISU's class is headlined by WR Allen Lazard who is really starting to garner national attention now (#1 WR according to Rivals).  They've also picked up a pair of DB prospects in the past few days (Victor Holmes and De'Monte Ruth).

9. West Virginia: The Mountaineers got one of their top targets two weeks ago in QB William Crest.  Not saying Crest ends up being the next Geno Smith, but they share a lot of qualities.  WR Ricky Rogers is the other current WVU commit.

10. Kansas:  The Jayhawks only have a single commit in RB Traevohn Wrench.  Wrench is a great overall RB and is currently ranked second among other current Big 12 RB commits.
