Otaro Alaka Commits To The Texas Longhorns

Otaro Alaka (h/t ihigh.com)
Finally, Mack Brown was able to top Kevin Sumlin and the Aggies in a premier recruiting battle.  As you can see above, Otaro Alaka, one of the top LBs in the state, committed to Texas earlier this evening.  The 6'3/205 prospect is a 4-star recruit, a top 200 player overall, a top 20 OLB, and a top 25 player in the state.  Alaka took a late visit to College Station over the weekend, but in the end, it just wasn't enough.  Below is what he had to say to Max Olson of ESPN:
"It feels good to be a Longhorn," Alaka said. "I just want to thank God first of all and just thank my coaches, parents and teammates for everything. I just felt like I was ready to pick Texas. They have a great atmosphere, great people and great academics. I just really liked their coaches."
SB Nation on what Alaka brings to the table:
While Alaka certainly has the pure physical talent and athleticism to play in the SEC, as a smaller, rangier linebacker, the Big 12 seems like a perfect fit because of his ability to play the run and to drop into coverage; the latter evidenced on his junior highlight film where he appeared to pattern match the routes run by the inside and outside receivers, who were crossing in an attempt to confuse him, as he finished the play with an interception.
