2014 Texas Tech Recruiting Preview

2013 Recap:  Kliff Kingsbury salvaged the 2013 class after Tommy Tuberville darted for Cincinnati during the middle of a dinner with recruits.  Kingsbury ended up signing 23 players in a class that ranked 8th in the Big 12.   The class had a couple 4-star recruits including a pair of pretty solid WRs; speedster Devin Lauderdale and Gary Moore (#163 in Top247).

Needs:  To me, it doesn't seem that Texas Tech has a glaring need.  They have a couple WRs graduating this year, but they did sign five last February.  They probably need another LB or two and the same can be said with someone who can play safety as they didn't sign one last year.

Early 2014 Commitments:  Even with the turnover with the coaching staff, Tech had gotten off to a nice start in 2014 with four commitments.  However, they weren't able to keep 4-star FL QB D.J. Gillins who committed back in November.  The dual-threat Gillins might be the best QB in Florida this year and is #103 overall according to Rivals.  A big loss for Tech.  They still have three commits right now including 4-star TX RB Justin Stockton who chose Tech over Baylor and Oklahoma.  Stockton helped his team make it to the State Championship game and averaged over 100 yards per game on the ground the past two years.  The last two are 3-star Texans Jakari Dillard (WR) and LJ Collier (DE).

Preview:  What can Kliff Kingsbury do on the recruiting trail?  Well already they have dozens of prospects with atleast moderate interest in the program.  3-star TX LB Christian Sam has Tech as a  favorite along with Oklahoma.  Sam visited Lubbock back in late February after they offered him a week before.  Tech is competing with almost every Big 12 school for 3* OL Ty Barrett and 4* CB Arrion Springs.  Those are just a few, but there are many others with "warm" interest in Texas Tech according to 247Sports.
